Dicembre 14, 2020A comprehensive review focused on Reflectance Imaging Spectroscopy (RIS) applied in the field of Heritage Science
The CNR-INO Heritage Science Group has recently published a comprehensive review focused on Reflectance Imaging Spectroscopy (RIS) applied in the field of Heritage Science in “La rivista del Nuovo Cimento della Società Italiana di Fisica”, edited by Springer Nature.
By showcasing significant results obtained on paintings by masters such as Rembrandt, Picasso, and Pollock, this review provides insights into how Reflectance Imaging Spectroscopy (RIS) enables both disclosing hidden features in the artworks and chemical mapping of the constituents.
Moreover, the state-of-the-art of the RIS techniques, their history and future prospects are reported. The review provides a very detailed account of the evolution of the technique and systems involved, together with the results from a multi-modal approach, basing on both RIS and other complementary methods.
The application frontiers of RIS to relevant artworks expand on the significant knowledge acquired during the related non-invasive studies.
